“Mysterious” Cults sign with Columbia Records

Mysterious pop act Cults have signed with In The Name Of/Columbia Records. From the three tracks streaming on their sparse Bandcamp site they sound like a psychedelic doo-wop group in the vein of My Morning Jacket’s  dark 2004 release Z. Check out their page and judge for yourself; but the band’s press release captured it best:

“Cults, materialized on the internet early last year but, similar to the existence of cultists, they were untraceable. Yet to those that had experienced their offerings, they were undeniable”.

Consisting of Brian Oblivion and Madeline Follin, the band is working with producer Shane Stoneback (Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend) and their full-length should be out by May 2011. To coincide with their major label debut, the band will be on an extensive tour starting in February. Enjoy!
