Jamaica, No Problem

French duo Jamaica released their debut album digitally back in February with the physical release dropping in North America on April 12th. Straight from pounding opener “Cross The Fader” it’s pretty apparent that the album is influenced by electronic grooves and with Justice’s Xavier de Rosnay and Daft Punk’s sound engineer Peter Franco covering production duties – No Problem is a sleek and raw beast heavy on catchy hooks and memorable hipster licks. No Problem cleverly captures the spirit of 80’s stadium rock with tracks like “Secrets” and “By The Numbers” reminiscent of excess rockers Urge Overkill in pop overdrive. Don’t get me wrong, Jamaica are not stuck in a time vacuum; “I Think I Like U 2”, “Short And Entertaining” and “Jericho” bring along sauntering guitar fuzz and poppy hooks that The Strokes forgot to put on Angels. Jamaica are primed and ready for indie success and are infectious enough for radio to come alive once again. (V2 Records)
