Funeral Suits, “Colour Fade”

Funeral Suits are a three-piece from Ireland consisting of Brian James, Mik McKeogh and Greg McCarthy. The band’s bio describes “A shared love of epic, distorted guitars, blistering harmonious pop, art rock and electronica”, so the band’s first single, “Colour Fade” is a bit of a tease.

“Colour Fade” contains nothing of the above description – the track is not epic, distorted, blistering, art-y or electronic. It is actually quite a nice, coherent, indie-rock track layered with comforting keyboard noise, perfected vocal effects and a simple guitar line. But after seeing the video, the song does take on a darker tone about wanting to escape what is safe and venturing into the unknown.

Having finished recording their debut album with producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) the album is due out this year. “Colour Fade” works in leaving me intrigued on where they have taken their sound. (Friends vs Records)
