Linda Brooks, The Upside

Linda Brooks’ career path took quite a curve; with two bachelor degrees under her belt (Arts and Law) she could easily be working a 9-5. Instead, she has a busy acting career and has just released her third album.

The Upside is backed by Nashville super-producer Chris Leuzinger (Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood & Emmylou Harris) and some of Nashville’s most talented players. Unfortunately, The Upside feels like a missed opportunity; with such power houses backing these songs you would think these players would inspire some wild country spirit. Instead, what you get are studio musicians clocking in over soft-pop songs.

Despite this, Brooks has a lovely voice that holds up her optimistic loves songs and the album showcases some top-notch production work. It is such a shame that these songs don’t muster any kind of emotion in the listener. (Independent) ~ 2 Stars
